I am based in SA and will be moving to the UK later in the year where I will teach and continue with the mag. I am hoping we can connect and collaborate! As a Montessori teacher who is in process of AMI training, we have been shown how to help children do this to help make them more independent. I think it is a "real" way to put it on and the key is really independence. We present materials to the child, but especially at the toddler level, the child will find their own way. And this sure is a way for them! :)C.Humehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14005999247604722711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-794158189897305567.post-82099817127726973762013-05-05T12:14:52.550-07:002013-05-05T12:14:52.550-07:00That is such beautiful idea, during the short time...That is such beautiful idea, during the short time my son was at nursery I worried so much about him missing me (well, I think it was a way of deflecting from the fact I really missed him), I think that as well as being an excellent learning opportunity for the child it will also bring her mother peace and confidence that she is in good hands. If you try to aim to leave the bedroom as much as possible for quiet work such as reading and sleeping, you'll find that this may help. Of course, it's not always that easy because toys do end up in bedrooms.
My other piece of advice would be to have a beautiful place for everything that is in your child's room, so baskets are great, or shelves. At the end of the day clearing up becomes special and important and, just as a child won't spill a jug of water if they are shown how to do it with pride, they'll soon learn that this is outside the hours of "work" and "play" and you'll probably find that after a few blips, they'll get it.
If your child struggles, quiet, continual reinforcement. It is sleep time now, play time is tomorrow, remove the toy, take child back to the mattress ad infinitum.
I think we have to trust our children to make good choices if we limit their boundaries.

Obviously, anything you really don't want them to touch, keep it out of reach.

Does that help at all?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17686057978927588322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-794158189897305567.post-11049200267949841702011-03-24T19:54:29.518-07:002011-03-24T19:54:29.518-07:00I'm just learning about Montessori. Begin at their level with not too much to over stimulate.
Often Montessorians like to put a mirror on the wall at ground level with a mat next to it for floor time. Perhaps you could then put a wooden bar above it for pulling themselves up when the time comes.

Hang a ball from the ceiling and keep things on the ground in storage baskets or containers.

Simple is key at this age, that means fabrics and textures as well as the number of "operations" a toy has.

Think about what a toy may "tell" a child ie: if you give them a rattle with the beans enclosed inside, how do they discover what makes the noise or what the noise is? If you give them a rattle where a bell is caged, the child gets the idea as to how the sound is made - does that make sense?

lots of scarves, simple wooden toys, tins they can put things into and out of.

You can then alter things as the child grows, move things up a level to "crawling" , then "standing" then taller child heights too.

Hope that helps.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17686057978927588322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-794158189897305567.post-77102910422800987912010-02-20T22:29:25.549-08:002010-02-20T22:29:25.549-08:00Thank you!
